Job Description:

Job Summary:The Controller is responsible for managing the accounting, finance, and budgeting functions of AQHA, or an affiliated business. This includes assisting senior-level management and accounting staff with accurate, complete, and timely financial reporting, as well as coordinating the accounting / financial activities of the business unit which include revenue administration; expense administration; budgeting and fiscal planning; account reconciliations; short-term investments and liquidity needs; external audit requirements; compliance; internal controls; and innovating the business to improve efficiencies, processes, and procedures. This role also serves as a consultant for other managers and supervisors within the organization, advising them of current budgetary information and working with managers to create a fiscal strategy that aligns with the goals of the organization.Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for performing, coordinating, and executing the annual budget and fiscal planning process;
  • Responsible for supervising the accounting processes, procedures, and entries of the company, including the preparation of complete and accurate monthly financial reports with variance analysis
  • Review and ensure the accuracy of the work of the team aligned within the business function to perform accounting and finance activities;
  • Engage in critical and confidential aspects of accounting and financial analysis.
  • Develop of policies, systems, practices, special reports and financial studies, etc. of major importance.

  • Responsibilities include supervising, assigning, reviewing, and participating in the work of employees responsible for financial planning, accounting, financial reporting, maintenance of the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash and investment management, and other activities commensurate with the finance function of a business entity.
  • Maintains compliance with external regulatory agencies, including the IRS through the annual filing of the 90 and state registrations for charitable operations.
  • Responsible to account for, track, and report endowments and restricted funds.
  • Ensure work quality and adherence to established policies and procedures.
  • Perform the more technical and complex tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility.
  • Analyze and resolve complex financial issues and prepare complex financial statements.
  • Perform complex financial analysis and account reconciliations.
  • Review/approve/post journal entries, prepare and interpret financial reports.
  • Serve as an Accounting liaison to internal and external customers.Requirements:
    • Knowledge of and adherence to pertinent Federal, State and local laws, codes and regulations.
    • Knowledge of and adherence to FASB Accounting Standards.
    • Knowledge of and experience with auditing principles, practices, rules and regulations.
    • Manages all aspects of complex financial projects from inception to conclusion.
    • Identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
    • Provide strong and credible leadership to staff, setting a unified direction for the team and ensuring priorities are clear at all times.
    • Provide thought leadership to cultivate a high performing department and customer centric culture.
    • Train, develop and motivate the team in skills, quality control methodologies, and accounting knowledge, teamwork, time management, and competitive knowledge.IT / Technical Knowledge:
      • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office applications
      • Microsoft GP
      • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or business administration
      • CPA strongly preferred
      • Specific experience with a 501(c)(3) organization in the foundation space
        ExperienceRequired
        • 3 - 5 years: FinanceEducationRequired
          • Bachelors or better in Business Administration or related field
          • Bachelors or better in Accounting or related field
