Medical Excellence, Training, and Policy team plays a critical role
in ensuring that healthcare providers are educated on the
appropriate use of our medicines and have the information they need
to improve outcomes for their patients. We develop strategies,
tools, and guidance to empower Field Medical (FM) teams around the
globe and ensure that they are aware, informed, engaged, and
equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to perform their
roles effectively and compliantly. The Director, Therapeutic Area
(TA) Training, embodies our medical mission in preparing and
enabling global FM teams to become trusted, agile partners who
engage in relevant dialogue and deliver timely, high-impact data
and insights that advance the science or accelerate access,
optimize medical practice, and drive appropriate adoption of
Bristol Myers Squibb medicines. This is achieved through management
of an innovative training team dedicated to the needs of FM teams
across all markets. Key Accountabilities
- Reports to Senior Director, Scientific Communications Training
, under the Medical Excellence, Training, and Policy team.
- Develops training strategy across all therapeutic area FM
teams.
- Identifies learning opportunities to support the ongoing
development and training of MSLs.
- Identifies and provides innovative training tools for FM
Trainers to utilize.
- Creates & executes a WW training plan aligned to TA
priorities.
- Evaluates on-boarding and ongoing field-based scientific
training for continuous improvement.
- Responsible for spending time in the field with FM trainers
identifying training gaps, coaching performance, and implementing
training plans and strategies.
- Leads a team of Field Medical trainers and Field Medical
Communication Specialists (FMCS) to ensure alignment and consistent
support across all markets.
- Evaluates training materials & programs, recommend ongoing
training needs, and modify programs to improve adult learner
experience based on input and approval from the FM Leadership
Team.
- Provides oversight and input into FM training and execution
plans and feedback on FM activities.
- Manages the budget for defined area of responsibility.
Collaboration
- Partner with the Scientific Communications & Engagement (SCE)
organization to assess FM scientific training needs, leverage
training for new processes, technology, or soft-skills for the MSL
function.
- Collaborates with FM trainers across therapeutic areas to
ensure best practice and knowledge sharing.
- Collaborates with stakeholders and leads to construct and
execute TA training plan that is aligned across markets and further
customize, as appropriate.
- Works with matrix stakeholders to streamline the development
and deployment of training to TA FM teams.
- Identifies existing resources from HOM and commercial training
where appropriate for FM Trainer use.
- Demonstrates true medical & scientific information, functional
subject matter expertise, and credibility to serve as an educator
to internal & external audiences. Qualifications, Skills &
Experience
- MD, PharmD, PhD, PA, DO, DN and/or advanced nursing degree or
science graduate with field medical experience in therapeutic area
or with a broad medical background.
- 3+ years pharmaceutical / biotech experience with a proven
track record of success; field medical experience preferred.
- Clinical TA experience; aligned to BMS TAs (Oncology,
Hematology, Cardiovascular, and Immunology & Fibrosis).
- Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills and
the ability to build and maintain internal and external
partnerships.
- Exceptional organizational and planning skills, with the
ability to manage budgets and medical communications/training
vendors as needed.
- Proven leadership skills with the ability to work seamlessly
across multiple matrix teams and stakeholders.
- Innovative thinker with enterprise mindset.
- Training experience in adult learning principles
preferred.
- Ability & willingness to travel nationally/internationally (
30% based on requirements). The starting compensation for this job
(US based) is a range from $173,000 -$217,000, plus incentive cash
and stock opportunities (based on eligibility). The starting pay
rate takes into account characteristics of the job, such as
required skills and where the job is performed. Final, individual
compensation will be decided based on demonstrated experience.
