Texas Panhandle Centers (Formerly Texas Panhandle Mental Health Mental Retardation) has an opening for a Director of Nursing Intellectual and Developmental Disabled.

Program: Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Nursing

Salary: $60,507.20 – $66,476.80 Annually

Shift Available: Full time

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:



  • The Director of IDD Nursing is responsible for management, supervision and coordination of the intellectual developmental disabilities nursing services; determines nursing service requirements and provides for the care and treatment of consumers with intellectual developmental disabilities

  • Completes supervisory responsibilities of interviewing, hiring, assignments, training, and monitoring staff performance in accordance with facility policies and procedures in the specified timeframes

  • Provides supervision of RNs, LVNs and clerk assigned to the Department; rotates with other nurses for after hours and weekend "on call" nursing coverage

  • Ensures nursing services are delivered in compliance with the principles and standards of Home and Community-based Services, Texas Home Living, General Revenue Services, Texas Board of Nurse Examiners rules and regulations, and local, state, and federal statutes/laws applicable to service delivery

  • The IDD Director of Nursing is also responsible for providing annual medication training to host parents and staff; participates in program planning, development, and intra-agency coordination by attending the Medication Error Committee, Infection Control Committee, Administrative Death Review Committee

  • The Director of IDD Nursing works under the general direction of the Director of Developmental Health.



    Required qualifications to be successful in the job:



    • Licensed through the Texas State Board of Nursing Examiner (TXBNE) as a Registered Nurse (RN), plus two years of work experience as an RN in a recognized health agency, hospital, or healthcare facility

    • License must be current and in good standing

    • Must be able to demonstrate compliance with a TXBNE's rules and regulations to maintain required license

    • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university program, plus one year of work experience as an RN in a recognized health agency, hospital, or health care facility

    • OR, a master's degree in nursing from an accredited program, plus one year of work experience as an RN in a recognized health agency, hospital, or health care facility

    • Two (2) years of management experience required

    • Ability to recruit, supervise, and train nursing staff

    • Ability to prepare and maintain records; to organize, coordinate, and evaluate nursing activities and interpret policies and procedures.

    • Must have a valid Texas driver's license and be insurable under agency vehicle policy

    • Must be 18 years or age or older



      Preferred qualifications to be successful in the job:



      • The ability to provide patient care with skills sufficient to apply CPR and First Aid

      • The ability to assign and supervise the work of others, to interpret regulations and convey them to others, to devise solutions to administrative problems, and develop and evaluate administrative policies and procedures

      • Ability to recruit, supervise, and train nursing staff

      • Experience working with individuals with Intellectual Developmental Disorder

      • Some knowledge of principles, standards, and regulat6050ions related to IDD programs
