Location AMARILLO, TX 79106 US (Primary) Career Area Support & Entry Level Category Admissions Job Description The Referral Specialist processes both internal and external referral requests and assists in properly navigating patients into the multi-specialty clinic from external referral sources / emergency rooms / patients. The Referral Specialist accurately registers and schedules patients pursuant to established protocols for Northwest Texas Physician Group providers. The Specialist contacts referring providers and patients to efficiently and thoroughly complete patient pre-registration criteria and communicates scheduled appointments. The Referral Specialist monitors incoming medical records and third party communication and routes to providers / medical assistants or Practice Manager as appropriate. The Specialist scans and properly indexes medical records into EMR system. The Referral Specialist responds to requests for medical records according to clinical policy. The Specialist conducts verification of eligibility for new patients and communicates clinic's expectation of payment at time of service - may collect co-payments and co-insurance at time of scheduling. The Specialist generates weekly and monthly reports, makes reminder calls for scheduled appointments and other duties as assigned. The Referral Specialist willingly accepts other assignments and may travel between facilities when requested. Northwest Texas Physician Group formed in 2013 with a focus towards population health management. The group has grown to a network of over 40 providers serving patients at numerous primary, specialty and urgent care locations in Amarillo, Texas. Northwest Texas Physician Group is affiliated with Northwest Texas Healthcare System, a 495 bed system acute care hospital, that serves approximately 650,000 residents of the Texas Panhandle and surrounding region. The system provides acute care services including: cardiac, pediatric, women s, emergency, surgical and behavioral healthcare. Amarillo has a population of nearly 200,000 people. The public schools are outstanding and there are college preparatory and parochial private schools available. The city boasts many cultural activities, including the Amarillo Symphony and Opera, the Lone Star Ballet and a variety of theater groups. Recreational activities are plentiful. Job Requirements EDUCATION, TRAINING, EXPERIENCE AND LICENSES/REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED 1. High school diploma or equivalent. 2. Administrative Medical Assistant certification or training preferred. 3. Minimum of 2 years in a medical office setting or hospital admissions/scheduling department involving patient registration, scheduling, verification of benefits and customer service. 4. Knowledgeable in the proficient use and application of an electronic medical records (EMR) system. Acute healthcare knowledge with understanding of clinical terminology and medical office processes, medical insurance billing/managed care, and HIPAA privacy standards. 5. Strong interpersonal communication with excellent written and oral communication skills. Typing and strong computer skills required. Proficiency in MS Office applications. 6. Ability to provide excellent customer service to both internal and external customers. Ability to quickly and accurately process and key data into an EMR. Ability to evaluate clinical data in order to properly process patient referrals. Ability to perform under pressure and tolerate interruptions. Ability to multi-task while maintaining efficiency and accuracy. 7. Ability to operate multi-line phone system, personal computer, fax machine, copier and scanner. PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS 1. Ability to effectively communicate using English language with patients, families, staff, physicians, support agencies, vendors and others 2. Ability to remain calm and composed under stress 3. Ability to respond to pages, telephones and other auditory stimulation 4. Ability to evaluate and interpret information and make independent decisions 5. Bending and lifting (up to 25 lbs), reaching, grasping, fine hand/eye coordination, pushing and pulling repeatedly, twisting, squatting and stooping 6. Sitting/standing for long periods of time
