Responsibilities

Job Summary:The Special Procedures Tech assists the Radiologist/surgeon during specialized and complex radiographic procedures including invasive neuro, vascular and other interventional procedures. Special Procedures Technologist tasks and responsibilities include: Special Procedures technologist assists the Radiologist/Surgeon during various specialized and complex invasive angio and interventional procedures performed in the Interventional Radiology Suite. Organize surgical scrub and circulation duties for total patient care during and after the procedure. Performs specialized radiography and fluoroscopic coverage of interventional and angiographic procedures under the direction of a physician / PA. Explains procedures to patients and addresses concerns. Preps the patient for procedure. Circulates during the procedure and assists in responsibility for patient comfort. Provides supplies necessary for diagnostic and therapeutic invasive procedures. Removes catheters/sheaths and applies direct pressure Provides necessary report information to physicians, nurse, and other staff members. Orders procedures and charges supplies. Performs image acquisition and post processing, provides necessary information concerning procedures and exposure times, places information on PACS in a timely manner. Maintains and calibrates equipment. Reports equipment malfunctions appropriately. Monitors, records and communicates as appropriate utilizing computerized documentation systems. Assists with transporting patients. Orients and mentors new staff members. Follows radiation safety techniques in accordance with recommended radiation safety practices.
