Phlebotomy Technician Role at BSA Hospital

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform specimen collection techniques or specimen collection instructions that include; venipuncture, capillary draws, urine collection instructions, and specimen culture collection instructions.
  • Promote professionalism and interact with colleagues in a way that promotes a cooperative working environment.
  • Ensure specimens are obtained in accordance with laboratory guidelines.
  • Demonstrate proper communication skills to relate pertinent data or information about the patient or laboratory sample to appropriate care providers.
  • Support organizational priorities to maintain compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards.
  • Attain required competency and demonstrate the ability to follow procedural directions and protocols.
  • Able to prioritize and organize workload and assist other coworkers to maintain productivity.
  • Follow proper protocols for specimen packaging and specimen transport.
  • Responsible for specimen accessioning as assigned.
  • Demonstrate proper infection control practices, proper patient identification, perform proper prompt specimen transport.
  • Perform proper drug screen collection and processing as assigned.
  • Answers laboratory department phone calls.
  • Demonstrate ability to recognize emergent conditions and reacts appropriately.
  • Provides phlebotomy services in a professional and patient-centered manner.
  • Engages in self-evaluation of practice and takes action to improve knowledge and skills.
  • Retains accountability for quality of care given to the patient.
    Requirements:
    • High School diploma or equivalent.Preferred Requirements:
      • Completion of an accredited phlebotomy/medical assistant program with clinicals or previous phlebotomy experience.
      • Certification from nationally recognized agencies, such as the National Health Career Association, American Society for Clinical Pathology, American Medical Technologists, National Center for Competency Testing, or American Certification Agency.
      • Experience working in the clinical setting.
