Key Responsibilities:
- Perform specimen collection techniques or specimen collection
instructions that include; venipuncture, capillary draws, urine
collection instructions, and specimen culture collection
instructions.
- Promote professionalism and interact with colleagues in a way
that promotes a cooperative working environment.
- Ensure specimens are obtained in accordance with laboratory
guidelines.
- Demonstrate proper communication skills to relate pertinent
data or information about the patient or laboratory sample to
appropriate care providers.
- Support organizational priorities to maintain compliance with
regulatory and accreditation standards.
- Attain required competency and demonstrate the ability to
follow procedural directions and protocols.
- Able to prioritize and organize workload and assist other
coworkers to maintain productivity.
- Follow proper protocols for specimen packaging and specimen
transport.
- Responsible for specimen accessioning as assigned.
- Demonstrate proper infection control practices, proper patient
identification, perform proper prompt specimen transport.
- Perform proper drug screen collection and processing as
assigned.
- Answers laboratory department phone calls.
- Demonstrate ability to recognize emergent conditions and reacts
appropriately.
- Provides phlebotomy services in a professional and
patient-centered manner.
- Engages in self-evaluation of practice and takes action to
improve knowledge and skills.
- Retains accountability for quality of care given to the
patient.
Requirements:
- High School diploma or equivalent.Preferred Requirements:
- Completion of an accredited phlebotomy/medical assistant
program with clinicals or previous phlebotomy experience.
- Certification from nationally recognized agencies, such as the
National Health Career Association, American Society for Clinical
Pathology, American Medical Technologists, National Center for
Competency Testing, or American Certification Agency.
- Experience working in the clinical setting.
