Summary This position is located in the Food Production and Service Unit of Nutrition and Food Services (NFS) at the Amarillo VA Health Care System in Amarillo, Texas. The incumbent's time will be spent in the various duties in Nutrition and Food Services including food preparation, food service, distribution, sanitation, computer usage, training lower graded employees, and security. A Recruitment/Relocation Incentive may be authorized for a Highly Qualified Individual. Responsibilities Prepares foods and beverages such as coffee, tea, juices, thick liquids, toast, sandwiches, gelatin, salads, and cottage cheese/fruit plates. Properly labels, dates and stores food, following standard practices. Routinely washes, peels, chops, cuts and dices food. Plates cold salads and desserts and portions ready-to-serve food into serving dishes and replenishes as necessary. Assembles and plates fruit or chef's salads. Uses recipes and follows directions to assemble chef's salads ingredients, make gelatin and gelatin salads, and desserts. Determines the need to stock or replenish meats, starches, vegetables, and all other items at serving times. Portions ready-to-serve food into serving dishes. Portions food items (e.g. gelatins, juices, canned fruit, and desserts) into standard serving sizes. Wraps bread or bread products, and sacks silverware. set up, and work all food stations on tray line. Delivers and sets up steam table, passes trays to rooms or tables. Picks up soiled trays and loads soiled trays to return to dishroom. Prepares and properly stores late trays following tray ticket, and/or the diet order and menu if the tray ticket is unavailable. Prints nourishment labels and prepares and delivers nourishments and formulas. Accommodates special requests when changes don't require extensive adjustments to preparation time or costs. Ensures sanitation standards are met when cleaning food preparation and food service work surfaces Work Schedule: 6:45 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. or 10:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Work schedule includes weekends and holidays; 2 days off during the week. Must be able to hear/speak loudly enough for hearing impaired veterans to hear and understand.
