Job Specialty: System ArchitectureWhat You'll DoAs a Windows Solutions Architect, you will be responsible for designing and implementing solutions in support of a national security mission to maintain the safety, security, and effectiveness of the United States nuclear weapons stockpile. As part of the IT organization's Chief Technology Office, the Windows Solutions Architect position offers you the ability to lead multiple, complex and high-priority projects. You will work closely with engineering and project management teams to scope, estimate, and provide overall technical guidance for assigned solutions/opportunities. You will also analyze existing systems and process and provides input on ways to improve processes and system infrastructure. A successful candidate can provide detailed documentation for implemented solutions and necessary knowledge base articles to allow for operational and ongoing support. The successful candidate will also have strong organizational and analytical skills with the ability to understand and break down complex problems.
Employee Core Responsibilities:

  • Create, review, analyze, and incorporate technical requirements into Enterprise Wide architectures.
  • Provide guidance and evaluation of technology solutions to provide input on technology direction to ensure CNS is utilizing best in class technologies and practices in support of its missions.
  • Identify and work with team of engineers and architects to identify areas for automation and application of DevOps principles.
  • Work with IS&S and business partners on cloud based technologies and how cloud could be utilized as part of solutions.
  • Ensures solutions are well engineered, operable, and maintainable.
  • Works with IT project management organization to deliver solutions on schedule.
  • Tracks and documents requirements for enterprise development projects.
  • Monitors current and future trends in technology which will positively affect organizational projects.
  • Acts as the senior technical resources for organization projects.
  • Works with enterprise architects to develop solutions which align to organization and mission needs.
  • Responsible for working with IT project management organization to allocate assigned labor/budget resources to execute project tasks.
  • Work effectively as part of an architecture team providing technical guidance to the business.

    • Work-life balance fostered through flexible work options and wellness initiatives.Minimum Job RequirementsBachelor's degree in Computer Science, CIS, MIS, Math or related field combined with at least 7 years of relevant experience including at least 2 years of solutions architecture.
      Fifteen or more years of education and/or relevant experience may be considered to satisfy educational and years-of-experience requirements for this posting.
      KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:Candidate must have in-depth, demonstrated technical experience in at least three of the following areas:
      • Windows Server environments
        • Includes Active Directory, Exchange, Skype, System Center Configuration Manager. Must be proficient in design and implementation of an Active Directory forest.
        • VMWare
          • Includes experience with complex VMWare ESXi environments.
          • Cloud services (Microsoft or Amazon)
            • Paas/SaaS/IaaS. Design, build, maintain, document, and automate technical processes and operations using preferred cloud platform. Design, implement, and test DR and business continuity processes using cloud services. Must have understanding of Authentication and Authorization, Identity and Access Management. Familiarity with hybrid cloud environments is a plus.
            • Infrastructure
              • Experience with Cisco UCS server infrastructure, UCS Manager, and UCS Central.
              • Experience with Netapp FAS storage devices, PureStorage and Pure Storage FlashBlade.
              • Experience with iSCSI, NAS, NFS, and Fibre Channel.Candidate must also have the following
                • Progressive experience in technical roles and solution architect roles.
                • Understanding of ITIL processes and experience implementing ITIL concepts.
                • Understanding of ServiceNow.

                  The candidate must also have the ability to present technical and operational information clearly and effectively through the oral and written word, solve complex technical problems, and be alert to changes that may affect the security and operational environment of systems.
                  Preferred Job Requirements Certification in key proficiencies (Networking, Windows, VMWare, Unix, Cloud) desired.
                  • Strong cyber security background.NotesThe minimum education and experience for the lowest career level in the job posting range are listed under Minimum Job Requirements. Successful candidates hired into a higher career level than the minimum in the range must meet the requirements listed in the job leveling charts for the career level into which they are being hired.
                    If a range of Career Levels is posted, i.e., Senior Associate to Senior Specialist, internal applicants already in one of the Career Levels would come across at their current Career Level. Internal applicants currently in a lower level Career Level would move to the lowest posted Career Level.
                    Requires a Q clearance; however all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required.
                    Position may require entry into Materials Access Areas (MAA) and participation in the Human Reliability Program (HRP). If HRP is required, candidate must complete a counterintelligence-scope polygraph, pursuant to 10CFR 709. Medical requirements may apply.
