Job Description:

Job Duties: 80% - Perform necropsies and histopathological examinations, record and interpret lesions and communicate with clients. This includes serving as case coordinator on complex, multiple-sample submissions by compiling/ correlating pathology and all ancillary test findings, suggesting alternative testing as needed, and communicating those conclusions and diagnosis to the client. Participate in investigative field studies individually or with a group of diagnosticians as needed. All work shall be performed in accordance with validated test methods, SOPs, procedures, employee training and proficiency, and equipment standards, as applicable. Work shall be performed with adherence to federal, state, Texas A&M University System, and TVMDL safety rules, regulations, policies and procedures. Ensure adherence and compliance with the TVMDL Quality Assurance Manual and associated quality assurance procedures. Actively participate in quality assurance and safety programs, cross training and skill development as applicable. All work shall be performed in such a way as to not expose others or myself to hazards that are avoidable by reasonable and approved methods. Foster laboratory teamwork, cooperation, professional standards and communications. Provide excellent customer service to laboratory clients. 10% - Maintain an awareness of scientific developments in diagnostic veterinary medicine pertaining to diagnostic pathology. Attend and participate in scientific and professional meetings, and/or read applicable scientific literature to maintain an awareness of developments in diagnostic medicine to offer state of the art diagnostic testing/services, and to promote efficient use of the histopathology and clinical pathology laboratory and services to practitioners and producers. 8% - Utilize emerging technology to offer new/better tests to aid in the diagnosis of production- and disease-related problems encountered by producers and veterinarians. Participation in continuing efforts to better educate TVMDL clients relative to improving their diagnostic skills and awareness of state of the art testing and interpretations. Seek ways that diagnostic pathology expertise and capability can be used by other agencies or businesses to support research in livestock disease. 2% - Perform other job related duties as required.
