* VideosVideos* DutiesHelpDutiesSummaryThe primary purpose of this position it to lead a minimum of three Housekeeping Aids in performing janitorial and custodial work in the Environmental Management Service of the Amarillo VA Health Care System in Amarillo, Texas.Learn more about this agencyResponsibilitiesDuties include, but are not limited to:* Full range of cleaning duties in an assigned area within the medical center.* Following general instruction on the work to be done.* Use various preparation to clean and maintain linoleum, wood, marble and various kinds of floor, wall and ceiling surfaces.* Remove stains from a variety of surfaces, using chemicals and cleaning solutions.* Work on ladders and scaffolds to change light bulbs, replace venetian blinds, wash walls, etc.* Operate powered cleaning equipment, clean and oil it, and change brushes and accessories.Work Schedule: Multiple shifts may include day (7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.); evening (3:30 p.m. to midnight); night (11:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m.) and weekends.Position Description Title/PD#: Housekeeping Aid Work Leader/504-2041-ARelocation/Recruitment Incentives: Not authorizedIMPORTANT NOTICE: By law, Housekeeping Aid positions may only be filled with applicants eligible for Veterans' Preference. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Physically, the Housekeeping Work Leader is expected to walk continuously, push and pull heavy loads; clean, steam and inspect very low areas requiring kneeling, bending, or crawling; climb step stool/ladders to clean and inspect high areas, change curtains and carry/move/lift loads of linens, trash, mattresses, furniture items using safe and proper techniques. Heavy lifting 45 pounds and over; heavy carrying 45 pounds and over; straight pulling 2 hours; pushing 2 hours; reaching above shoulder; use of fingers; both hands required; walking 8 hours; standing 8 hours; crawling 2 hours; kneeling 2 hours; repeated bending 4 hours; climbing, legs only 2 hours; climbing, use of legs andarms; both legs required; operation of crane, truck, tractor, or motor vehicle; ability to rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously; near vision correctable at 13" to 1" to Jaeger 1 to 4; both eyes required; depth perception; ability to distinguish basic colors; ability to distinguish shades of colors; hearing (aid permitted); far vision correctable in one eye to 20/50 and to 20/100 in the other and emotional and mental stability.Working Conditions: Outside, outside and inside, excessive heat, cold, humidity, dampness/chilling; dry atmospheric conditions, excessive noise, intermittent; dust; fumes, smoke or gases; solvents (degreasing agents); slippery or uneven walking surfaces; working around machinery with moving parts; working around moving objects or vehicles; working on ladders or scaffolding; working with hands in water; vibration; working closely with others; working alone and protracted or irregular hours of work.EducationThis job does not have an education qualification requirement.
